Bambini del Danubio offre sostegno ai piccoli appartenenti a famiglie disagiate e affetti da patologie non curabili nel paese d'origine. Fin dalla sua fondazione, si è presa cura di tantissimi bambini con malattie gravi (patologie chirurgiche malformative e ortopediche, tumori solidi, leucemie, patologie croniche, malattie rare), per i quali spesso sono stati necessari più ricoveri e interventi chirurgici, talvolta anche lunghi mesi di terapia.
L'Associazione raccoglie e seleziona le richieste d'aiuto, valuta la struttura ospedaliera più adeguata, affianca ed accompagna piccoli pazienti dal primo contatto fino alla completa risoluzione del problema. Oltre a sostenere i costi degli interventi chirurgici, fornisce farmaci e presidi sanitari domiciliari, garantisce vitto e alloggio al bambino e a chi si prende cura di lui, sostiene le spese di viaggio, garantisce la disponibilità di mediatrici culturali.
Attualmente Bambini del Danubio collabora con dodici Paesi e sei strutture ospedaliere, italiane e straniere, per offrire la migliore cura possibile.
Bambini del Danubio si è fortemente impegnata, sin dai primi anni di attività, nel campo degli interventi socio-economici a sostegno delle famiglie del Friuli Venezia Giulia che vivono in condizioni di particolare disagio ed emarginazione sociale.

Bambini del Danubio ha acquistato un immobile e ne ha affidato la gestione gratuita al personale della comunità che, da tempo, coordina un ricovero nei locali attigui per coloro che sono senza fissa dimora. Questo intervento ha permesso non solo di duplicare la capacitàricettiva della struttura, ma anche di offrire accoglienza a piùlungotermine.
Il sostegno per il pagamento di utenze e per le speseessenziali, invece, si rivolge a famiglie con gravi difficoltà economiche che risiedono nell’area di Trieste: l’Associazione si impegna per tutelare il diritto dei minori ad avere una casa, un corretto percorso di studi, nonché l’accesso garantito ad un’alimentazione sana, ad un vestiario adeguato e all’occorrente per l’igiene personale. Per raggiungere questo obiettivo, tutti i fondi messi a disposizione dei bisognosi non vengono consegnati direttamente al nucleo famigliare a cui sono destinati, ma sono gestiti con la supervisione di un operatore delle comunità che seguono i casi, ai fini di avviare un processo educativo che va oltre il contesto economico.
Un ruolo fondamentale, infine, svolgono anche gli interventi in ambitopsicologico, tramite i quali gli operatori abilitati delle organizzazioni con cui collabora l’Associazione si impegnano per assicurare un sostegno ai soggetti e alle famiglie che si trovano ad affrontare situazioni di forte degrado sociale. Le sessioni di ascolto sono volte ad educare gli adulti in modo che possano svolgere correttamente il proprio ruolo di genitori, tutelando l’innocenza dei minori e garantendo loro tutto ciò a cui hanno diritto.
